Paper Birch

Paper birch is also known as white birch, it can be found throughout the Marshland Wildlife Drive. White birch is a fire-dependent species, their seeds need bare earth in order to germinate. When a fire comes through the debris on the ground is burned up and the earth is now exposed and the seed is able to reach the soil more easily. Many insects love the leaves of birch trees and because you can find many insects on birch, you can also find many bird species using the tree as a feeding site.
